I just bought a new belt MAX 1105M2 for my 1999 XLT Classic and it seems to be sitting low in the secondary clutch. Shouldn't it be above by 1/8"? How do I adjust this and what should the deflection measurement be? We replaced the spring this fall with OEM.
Don't rely on the 1/8" above secondary. Make sure you have 1 1/2" of belt deflection by placing a straight edge on belt and pushing down between clutches. To adjust the clutch you need to pull the belt up to open secondary up a bit and then loosen up the adjustment dial and move it. I don't remember which way. You will find out which way to go. Move it 1/2 a mark/number and then jiggle the belt or run it(stand) and see where it is. Readujust if neccessary.
