I have 3 Polaris snowmobiles, 2 list 3211042 as belt part numbers. One lists 3211080, that machine came with - used, a belt with 3211075 as part number. The correct size is listed as the 080, so is the 075 slightly shorter, and why would someone want to run a 75 instead of a 80?

The last 2 numbers don't necessarily "mean" anything, they're just part of the whole polaris part number for that belt. Each belt number is different from the others in one way or another obviously, hence the reason for the different part number. You need to look at a polaris belt matrix to see what the differences are. Unfortunately i can't find a clear copy on the net here and i don't have a scanner to scan it. With the example you mentioned that 3211075 belt will not fit your sled if your sled calls for a 3211080 belt. They are different because the 080 belt is for a 11.5" center to center and the 075 belt is for 12" center to center.
