i would say the best gas sippers out there were the phazers from yamaha, the 440z's from cat, the formula's from doo and from polaris it would have to be any model with the 488 fan like the trails. all the sled get around 20 mph if not more on better days
I have an RX-1, and I say it gets the best gas mileage. Right now I get a minimum 16mpg driving aggressive. This weekend I beat my zrt800 at the pumps by 4gals in an 80 mile leg; 9.2 to 5.2.....and I was just under a half tank!!! 3 weekends ago I got better gas mileage than a polaris 550 super sport and a xc 600 edge!! I like to see the big twins and triples say that!
I would give my left leg if I could get 10MPG out of my sled. I ride a 700 summit, 6-7 MPG is it. I have had it to the dealer several times an he tells me nothing is wrong,"they all get that". I'm not sure about that. I rode this weekend in 18" of new heavy wet powder and went 55 miles and used over 9 gallons of gas. I ride totally off trail so I don't expect great MPG but 8-9 would be great. I hate only going 60 miles before I am out of gas. The dealer changed the midrange needle, and changed the clutch weights. I runs great and doesn't load up or flood, but it sure is a gas hog.
The Frontier or the Cat 4 stroke are supposed to be pushing 25 MPGs.
For an 800 twin I'll put my Cat up against any of them. I consistantly get better mileage than Polaris 488s. This week of hard riding I got better mileage than the 2000 ZR Sno Pro I was Riding with. That sled has a Hooper 700 in it but its 100lbs lighter than mine. Average trail riding on hard pack 14 mpgs, hard riding 12mpgs.
Two guys we talked to up in Cochrane were sustaining over 150miles /tank on rx1's, they figure was more room yet.. Were were seeing 110 xcr and 100 on skidoo 600's/tank , were wide and open running. The little 600's were working hard ehehe
