If you can fork up the cash, any T-Cat is what your looking for, preferably a 98' 1000. But, if you can't, I personally hate Polaris, but, the XCR 800 is close ( not quite as much ) in speed to the T-Cat 900.

My dad had a 1998 Yamaha srx 700. That sled had some get up and go. We now have a 1998 Polaris ultra 680.

First of all, you will never have a sled that will/can be fully modded out to the max and be reliable. Second, look around, obviously the bigger is faster, it's also faster way to kill yourself too. Some people can handle speed and some can't, not saying you can do either. There is more to snowmobiling then just hauling ass. But hauling ass is a part of it, and remember if you are going fast on a trail, think that the other person coming at you is doing the same speed if not faster. Makes for one hell of a collision. t cat with a priceperf.com 1300 top end, 300+ hp on pure motor!!

priceperf has a 1000cc top end for polaris, skidoo and yami that all make over 200 hp on pump gas. got to see a guy with the yami srx 1000 top end drive off the trail and do a 116 mph 1000' run and then go ride again.

T cats are some of the meanest sleds ever made they can hold the skis up to 70 stock and there are so many mods that you can do to them if you want a sled that will try to rip your arms off and hull ass your going to want a t cat.

In some situations, a high powered tripple can be the last thing you would want, example, You can take a 440 and beat 700 if it's all tight and twisty trails. The 440, being lighter, can be more easily thrown around. Also, many states have speed limits and going over the speed limit will cause the trails to close.

Edit, the later version of the ZRT and Thundercat look pretty sweet. If money is no issue, then look for the Z1 Turbo, even though it's a twin not a tripple, those can be modded way over 200 hp leaving the T-Cat in the snow dust.

Thundercat or ZRT. tons of power, reliability, and an endless number of mods out there for the sleds.

if you really dont want a cat then i'd go Polaris. Indy 650s have really good power and are really reliable. or an XCR800 would be a great sled.

1998 Thundercat 1000 still holds as the fastest bone stock production sled out there.

Aftermarket Pipes
V-Force Reeds
Clutch Kit
Correct jetting with tempaflow
144 Studs

With that setup, you are guaranteed, with perfect conditions, to see 135. Stock is 128. If you don't believe me, look it up.

Most Cat triples in this year range were black. You don't like black either? A while back I swore if I bought a new Cat it would be black (considering the other 2 choices were green or orange), but then I saw an orange Crossfire recently at my dealer and that looked sharp.

I understand the late 90's/early 00's AC green love or hate it on the ZR/ZL's, but hoods can be painted easily as someone said.

a stock engine mach z or xcr 800 can beat a piped and ported ultra. do some porting to the 800 xcr with stock pipes and it is competetive to the thundercat.

bang for the buck obviously is the tcat, with stock pipes, some porting, head work, gearing and clutching you should have a pretty mean machine. work on suspension upgrades and wieght loss and you would have some serious hp and a good ride.
