i bought a 2002 mxz600 put about 250 miles on it and already blew a belt. seems a little soon. i was wondering if towing back my buddies xlt from a trail could have caused this.

Yes, I would say the towing did it. 3 of us with 2001 MXZ's are on the original belts with mileage from 3200km up to 4600km!!!
Towing is the easiest way to blow a belt. The belts are made for your sled and your sled only. DONT TOW more than 5 miles. It is especially bad in powder.

Ride Snowmobiles, baseball, bowling, and golf require only ONE ball!!

Towing could have caused it, bu other things could have as well. Maybe it was just a bad belt. Have you checked to make sure the tourque stop on your engine is not broken? This happened to my friend and he was blowing belts like crazy until he found out because the engine would twist and everything would not align.

snowmobiles don't make good tow vehicles it is a definite quick way to a blown belt. Take a quick look over engine mounts too. Bad mounts can cause bad torque on the engine and taht is a belt disaster waiting to happen.
Get a new Dayco Ultimax II Belt. At $50 I feel it was worth it.
