I was talking to an older guy and he insits that boiling a diry carb in water for an hour will clean it better then saoking it in carb cleaner over night. Is there any truth to this? Is this a good idea if you don't have shop air handy for blowing out the smaller passages? Maybe good emergency idea if you are away from tools but have a heat source handy? Thanks

I normally boil crabs for about 15 minutes, then sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning. Yummy!

Sorry about that. I've got too much time and no snow!

We always called soaking your carb "boiling it"...maybe that is were the term came from. Or maybe someone heard they needed to "boil your carb" and they took it too literally.

I have seen varnish that it took acetone to remove...doubt if heating it in water would resolve that.
