Broke the carburetor on a 1979 arctic cat jag and exact replacement carbs are $200

Hi all, (sorry in advance for any improper terminology, I am new to working on snowmobiles/engines) I have been working on getting a 1979 arctic cat jag 340cc snowmobile running that hadn't run in years. I actually got it running but had some "fine tuning" I was trying to do and ended up breaking the carburetor. Like one of the metal columns that the pin that holds the float tab in place goes through snapped off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe this sort of thing is repairable. So anyway, I began looking for another carb online, but this carburetor is hard to find because this exact one is a butterfly throttle type. Any matches I have found are roughly $200 and this snowmobile probably isn't worth much more itself. I was wondering if there are other carburetors which would be interchangeable for a more reasonable price. Thanks in advance for any help and let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Nope that carb is a PIA and you'll probably find ZERO parts available.

While it may be possible to put a slide Mikuni on it you might find the flanges impossible to locate for it to fit right. You'd better be ready to fabricate something up for this one. Good luck !
Thank you for your input. Fabricate something I did indeed lol. "Fixed" it with JB weld. Hope it holds up to the gasoline. I've heard mixed opinions as far as it's resistance to fuel. But as the great Larry Enticer would say, "Just Gonna Send It!"

That's exactly what I would have done lol. I would just make sure I have the best epoxy for the environment. Something that is resistant to gasoline and ethanol since it will be immersed in it. And the joining surfaces must be sort of rough and very clean.
I've had a lot of good luck with epoxy for structural repairs.
It sounds like you have a specific carburetor for your 1979 Arctic Cat Jag 340cc snowmobile that is difficult to find and expensive to replace. While an exact match would be the best option, it may be possible to use a different carburetor as a replacement as long as it is compatible with your engine and fits properly.

You can check with the manufacturer or a snowmobile repair shop to see if there are any recommended replacement carburetors for your specific model. Additionally, you can look for aftermarket options, which may be less expensive than OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts.

It's also worth noting that you can also try searching for used carburetors from the same model or year of snowmobile or even looking at carburetors from other brands or models of snowmobiles that may be compatible with your engine.
It's important to note that installing an incompatible carburetor can cause damage to your engine and lead to costly repairs, so it's best to consult with a professional or do extensive research before making a decision.

You can put a Mikuni slide carb on it. You just need a new carb flange and the right length throttle cable.34 mm Mikuni carb will work. Did that to my brothers several years ago. still runs great.
