Hmm, I'd say this is like my third area of interest or hobby. I have spent about $1200 on car audio so far. Here is a picture of the trophy I won in a db dragrace. I got first with 143.7 db with only two 10 inch drivers and 700 watts of power!
You for sure found the man here......I am a MECP certified installer, and a member of IASCA. I built the loudest vehicle north of the twin cities in minnesota ( a 158. something....can't remember right now) at my old job (Auto Audio II in superior wisconsin). I have some pics of that install as well as my own car. In fact I have my car pics uploaded right now....let me find them.....
ok found some.... here is some pics
you can kinda see my front stage in this pic...not really but you get the idea...
Here is my list of stuff
Pioneer Premier DEH-P730 deck
MB Quart Reference 6.5 inch component's in the doors
Infinity Kappa 693.3 6X9's in rear side panels
Rockford 400.4 amp for front and rear speakers
Rockford 500.2 for sub
12" Polk audio DX sub ( soon to be replaced as soon as I get box built for my 15" image Dynamics IDQ v2.d2)
If you need to know ANYTHING about car audio I would almost bet money that I will know it!

im still in the process of building mine. I started out w/ a JVC reciever, 5 1/4 JL's in the doors, and like 3 JL's in the back, i blew up the little ones (those all were my bros) , now im minus the JL's in the back, but 2 12" JL subs, W4's. i ran out of money now that i got my new sled tho...have to wait till nexxt summer to finish my car i guess...oh well...it sounds nice, mostly just BOOM, BOOM, BOOM now....but once i get some better speakers in there, it will be a whole lot better

Great! My system so far includes just about everything rockford for now.
An rf deck, 2 sets of hpc 6 1/2 full range drivers and an an RF POWER 800.4 amp.
I have a pair of 10 inch b-52's, kinda old. I will probably be buying a pair of 3515 Digital Designs Subwoofers (15's) and running a RF bd1500.1 on the pair with a 10 to 15 cubic foot ported box and about 200 square inches of port area. I have a friend that has invested roughly $6000 in car audio for his $8000 car! RIght now he is installing a Digital Designs 9515 ( http://www.ddaudio.com ) and powering it with 2 shredders that put out 2000 watts rms. So he will be unning 4000 watts to this sub. For his top end, he has a dd audio 6 1/2 inch components set. They sound better than any set I have ever heard in my life, and him too! He runs an older style RF 500.2, putting out about 1200 watts, on the mids, and an older RF 225.2, putting out about 700 watts, on the tweets! He uses RF symetry as his eq. He has 3 optima yellowtops and a high amp alt. Oh yes, lets not forget the classic RF reciever unit that puts out 7 volts on the rca's! This guy is insane, he helps me out a lot. If you want to talk car audio, talk to this guy!
Sounds like your friend really knows his stuff!I am really not a huge DD fan but they do make great equipment however. I am planning to do a big ported box for my IDQ......thinking I will get about mid 140's with it when done....plenty for a daily driver!! I have another brand new polk that matches the one currently in my car....that pair is going into my S-10, to be powered by the Memphis 500D monoblock amp. I still need to get some more stuff for the truck though. In my camaro I started to throw some stuff in there but everything got stolen like 6 months ago when it was at the body shop, with the exception of the JL 6.5 tr coax's in the doors! Grrrrr I hate people who steal stuff!!!

oh ya, i got a 200 watt hifonics amp, i think it probably has more like 250 watts, tho, my subs sound goodnow, but if i get a new amp, im sure they will sound a lot better...lol

In my teeny tiny escort...
180w JVC El Kameleon Deck
Pair of Kenwood 6.5's in the doors
Pair of Polk Audio 5x7s in the rear deck
Two Rockford 12's boomin in the hatchback
A 600W Mobile Authority Amp for the subs and a 200W amp for the rear deck speakers
the 600 watt amp and one of the 12s are new, so thats gonna have to be good enough for me for a little while.

I just got my new RF db1000.1 stolen; (with the rest of my system). The next will be chained to the freaking frame of my truck.
What has anyone else done to defer thieves or make there system rip-off proof? Text
Well the thing we found most effective at my old job to deter stereo theft, was to install an aftermarket alarm, but add a second siren inside the vehicle. Also around each piece of equipment put one of those little stobe lights.....the combination really disorients you and makes it hard to steal in a hurry. Is it still possible? Yes. Is it likely? Not really.

I just have a Panasonic Liquid display deck with Sub-outputs which i love because i can control the bass to my subs and not mess with any speakers, and i dont have to have bass-blockers. I have the new 4-way Pioneers in my back and 3 inch Rockfords in the front for tweeters. Im running a Crunch 1200 watt to two 12 inch 450 watt JBL's, and a rockford 230.4 to everything else. Good enough for me in my Mazda mx-6.
If I ever get my truck I may intall a Computer driven sound system. Aka install a full fledged PC in the truck as the headunit. That way I could watch DVDs, listen to MP3s or CDs, and play games . Doubtful though. Trucks are meant for work, fun and more work.
The only problem with that sled dog is vibration....and believe me, no computer could survive for long in a car with a good loud stereo. I have had a friend who tried this with his laptop and found out the hard way that they are not built for that kind of abuse.
