I have an Indy Lite 340 and wanted to clean the carbs. Specifically I want to clean the pilot and main jets as well as the float bowl.

My question: will I have to adjust anything before I put it all back together? I'm not an expert but have watched a friend take the carbs out and apart on my XLT triple but can't remember if he adjusted things like the float level for the routine carb cleaning we did.

You would just want to check the float level and idle air screw setting to factory specs and adjust if necessary. I just did this on my '93 Xlt that had a hard starting problem. Found out the the screws were only 3/4's to 1 turn out. The spec in the book said 1.5 turns. Now instead of 15 pulls its 4 on cold start. Also adjusted choke and that may have been some of the problem, too.

Do need to take the carbs off to adjust the choke?

No, just find the choke cables that run to the carbs They have an adjustment screw and locknut. You adjust them until you have the specified freeplay(most are 1/8-1/4") in the choke lever.
