i have two switches that are screwed into the sides of the carbs. I have a 92 exciter and was wondering what the functions of these are and if i could bypass them

More info if you could provide. What kind of switch, what kind of carb, which side of the carb is this switch on?

it is an electrical switch on the left side of the carbs if your looking at the front of the sled. They are round slide mikuni's and the switch comes in closest to the airbox.
It is #45 on the diagram below:

According to that diagram that is the cable adjuster. Where you adjust the cable tension for the choke. I dunno how it's electrical.

number 46 ..not 45, "carburator switch" anyways i got aound it by tieing the two wires together and bypassing the switch all together..but i'd still like to know its functions
