I read a post somewhere that a mod for the 488 fc was to swap in the CDI from a 500. Any thoughts on what this would accomplish?

Every Polaris 500 is actually a 488, at least it was back in the Fuji Heavy Industry days, I'm not certain about the new domestics.
What's your problem with it?

Swaping a 500 cdi will not acomplish much if at all anything. If you want to make an easy mod. for the same amount of money as a cdi you could just do some clutch work.

I bought this 1989 sled down on Wrong Island as a dealer left-over. Hasn't seen much use, only 600 miles on it. I know that there's not much that can be done to increase performance, but I would like to maximize what can be done. Got a DG pipe on clearance, put gas shocks in rear and will do fronts this summer. Also put on a 2-up seat and bigger gas tank. Any ideas appreciated.
