break cleen works good on metal parts. Becarful on some plastics though as it can dry them out.

what should be covered off while spraying water in there?

$20 a bottle Cat Cleaner. Best stuff I ever used.[:p]

Depends on what you use, if you use a petro based cleaner, cover anything rubber or plastic (good luck with that). With a gel based cleaner anything leading to the intake of the engine, just dont aim the hose at the airbox intake and you'll be fine.

what should be covered off while spraying water in there?
Just use common sense with the pressure washer. Don't hold it 3" from the carb boots and intake. Same goes for the flywheel area, don't go filling up the small holes that lead to internal parts.
My machines get the treatment at least once a year and I spray down everything
