Clutching is not my thing.[:I]
Clutch's are on 2 machines.

1. is a 98 tran sport.
Is the driven clutch sheaves supposed to touch?
Drive clutch is squealing when taking off.
Have cleaned it but is getting worse.

2. 97 trail touring
Are the pins and weights supposed to have sideways play?
Clutch also squeals bad when taking off or reversing.
Have also cleaned it.
The cover does have some up and down play in it.
Is the bushing worn out?

Thanks [beatup]

belts are to tight, do a search for belt delfection and settings.

the bolt that holds the wieghts on is a little longer than the spot they go in.

the weights should be free to rotate on the bolt but not have a lot of lean to them. meaning you should get some side to side movment. but you shouldnt be able to lean the weight or wobble it on the bolt.

Thanks for the quick response Madcow.

Have played with the belt deflection on the tourings driven but it does not help with squealing.
Seems like the squealing is a metal sound than a rubber squeal.

Both have side to side play on the weights so that means i have to replace them and the pins?
It's more than normal i think.

Will try adjusting again.

Thanks

hiperf.com can get you new weight bushings at a lot lower cost than new weights.

check primary clutch for belt side clearance. there should be some.

if the sqweel is metal then its a hunting game.

For the tran sport with the p90 do i just order a p85 or do i go with the team p90kit at $123?
Everything is the same except for the movable bushing.
Also the weights on both the 98 p90 and 97 p85 show wear on the sides.
Do i just replace the bushings or go new?
I am on a budget so that throws a monkey into the system.

Thanks for putting with my dumb questions.

When you say wear on the sides do you mean on the top where the roller contacts or on the edges where the pin goes through?
