crack in tunnel and running board

653 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tfin70
I just bought a 98 Formula 3. It had some homemade footgrips on it. I removed these today and discovered that there is a crack that runs from the running board up the side of the tunnel about 3-4 inches. Obviousily Im concerned about this, but is this something that I should be worried about. Can it be welded? Thanks for any info.

I would have somebody experienced with aluminum welding do that, plus add some type of reinforcement to it. Maybe a small aluminum plate or sheet that is riveted, or welded right over it. Anything is better than nothing.
Thats what I was thinking. There's a shop just up the road from my house so maybe Ill take a ride up there today and see what they can do for me. Thanks again.
Definately go with what megaman said, I'd think you'd be all set then. I used to have a 84 Phazer that had a rip in the side of the tunnel. The previous owner simply put a piece of steel over the rip, drilled holes on each side of it, and bolted it on. I never had a problem with it the whole time I owned it.
