Cylinder Honing

Can anyone offer advice on cylinder honing. is this something easily done or is it better to take to the shop. any advice would be great

If you are just scratching it up to install new pistons/rings, then it is pretty easy. If you are boring it, then I'd take it to a shop. To hone it, get a good cylinder hone and some honing oil. insert the hone in the cylinder and spin it while moving it up and down on the cylinder. Look for a nice "cross-hatch" pattern in the cylinder walls. You may need to champfer the ports of they feel sharp. I usually take a small piece of snadpaper and take the edge off the ports. This keeps the rings from popping. Wash with warm soapy water, dry, and I usually put a thin coat of injector oil to heep her fresh until reassembly.
