I just took out my sled for the first time this weekend. I put on about 80 miles and then the bearing on the speedo side of the driveshaft blew apart, my driveshaft is done, and the chaincase and cover are toast from the gear.

Questions
1-Why/how did this happen?
2-How do I fix this?

Thanks,
njs

If the bearing was the first problem, then the most likely reason was that the bearing housing was low on grease. To prevent this, add grease to all your grease zerts. If the chain case gears were your problem, then you may have been running low on gear oil. How to fix? You will need to...

a. Remove the rear suspension
b. Remove whats remaining of the chain case
c. Remove the secondary clutch
d. Remove the spedometer housing/jackshaft hosuings
e. Remove the cog wheel
f. Remove the track
g. Dis-assemble the brake
h. Remove the jackshaft

Jackshaft, Gears, chain case, and bearings will need to be replaced. All in all, one day's work!
