I just put a used fuel gauge and sending unit in my 01 mxz 800. When I start the sled the gauge lights up, and when the sending unit was out of the tank it moved as I moved the piece that goes in the tank. After installation, my tank is almost empty, but the gauge is reading half full. When I shut the machine off the gauge reads empty. How accurate are the gauges, anyone know? Any ideas as to why it maybe reading half full on an almost empty tank?

Does anybody know if the float on the bottom twist?

my guess would be that the float in the tank, is hitting on the bottom of the tank and giving you a false reading. just my .02

Yes. Or maybe the arm is bent?
You can 'calibrate' the gauge. Put enough gas to reach the fuel pickup and mark the gauge (with a line or whatever). This is 'empty'-with a bit of gas left. Add 1 or 2 gallons- this is your "crap, I'm about to run out" mark. You can do the half tank mark or any setup you want that works for you. Then you don't have to wonder how accurate it is.
