thats the ebay auction number for a cat 440 top end. get that at least.
I'm no cat guy, but what are you looking to do? Ice drags? Circle Track racing or what? I would agree I would try to pick up a 440 z motor, maybe even trade for the whole sled or sell, buy a 440 z. I've seen a couple on auto trader, not cheap but would be fun to have. They are museam worthy lol. If u wanna keep the el tigre, maybe bore, stroke it to a 440. Custom dual pipes, maybe bigger carbs. Set it up to run on higher octane fuel, probably wouldn't handle race fuel though. If it's oil injected, i'd make it a pre- mix, ditch the oiling system to loose a few pounds by removing oil tank, pump etc if possible. I'm sure they are steel skis, maybe find an aluminum set or make a set of aluminum short drag skis. Play with the primary weights, change a helix in the secondary maybe. Gear it maybe but you'll loose in either direction of acceleration or top speed. If you're gonna run drags, gear it so it has a good acceleration, don't worry about a top speed. Find other ways to lighten it up. Lighter seat, hood( all though i doubt no one makes a lighter one for your sled) but you can get rid of headlight assemblies etc. And as everyone says (not trying to be a dick) but being light and aerodynamic ur self is key. But all in all have fun with it. Classic sleds are so much fun.

theres some good info now its pre mix already and i take my headlight assembly off when i do drags im just racing for fun no big shows and stuff but as for ski's that would help me out lots but off the start it seems like it bogs then winds up!

increase you primary engagement rpm.
like changes weights and springs?
well, first of all, you must be pretty experienced at some of these things before you can do anything that will help and not hurt your engine, but- you can port and polish your cylinder, scrap your airbox, put dual carbs on, tune the carbs, hollow out your exhaust pipe, get high perf. spark plugs....and don't do any of these things unless you know what you are doing.....because you can mess up your engine seriously if you dont do it right.!
74 eltigre have no airbox, already have dual carbs
