We're trying to fix a broken arctic cat zl 580. The last time it was ridden it was low on coolant and the engine seized up. When we tore it apart we found that the piston skirt was broken on one piston, there's a mild amount of pitting and scoring on the piston and cylinder wall, the other piston was scored a little bit too.
Does this sound like it overheated? I don't see why the piston skirt would be broken. Also, when I look in the crank case, it's almost completely full of oil. I'm not familiar with snowmobile engines yet but I'm pretty sure this isn't right.
Any ideas what might have gone wrong?
