Hey all. I have a 99 Polaris XC 700. The previous owner actually put a 700 motor in 600 chassis, but whatever. Anyway, I'm looking to put edge seat and tank on it or something like that. Does anyone have any ideas? Know of any write up how to or vids?

You have the one piece seat and fuel tank covered in vinyl. You need to find and fit an edge or XCR tank I think it was. Then you have your choice of shorty seats. You have to get crafty tinkering with the old iron at this point but good luck and show us some pics.

it depends on what you want to accomplish. the edge seat is pretty much the same except rounder. if you want comfort like a modern sled, this is what i did: took wood from a pallet (thin top pieces) and built a box frame on top of the tunnel.used furniture nuts to bolt the back end and just mitered the front to fit existing bracket (used finishing nail gun and gorrilla glue) wrapped the frame with vinyl from walmart and stapled. the seat mounts permanately to the frame. for the front of the seat, pull the staples and pull back the vinyl, get out your electric knife and shape the foam to meet up with the gas tank. wrap the vinyl around the foam and staple back to the original seat frame. you end up with a seat that is 3.5" higher and approximately 4" further forward. seat permanately fixes to frame, frame bolts to tunnel like original. you end up with mega storage under the seat. it cost me $10 for vinyl and staples. no more sore hips or burning thighs. don't forget to put put risers on to match. you can easily stand up over the bumps.

Could you post a couple of pictures of your seat creation. also what year/sled did you do this on? I was thinking the same thing of a storage box under the seat and reshape to lift everything up. I have not gotten farther than concept though.

let me get some pictures next week. the sled was a 1999 600 xcsp. you have the two side rails that go along the tunnel. cross member in the back with furniture trick nuts so you can screw in from the tunnel. a front cross member that fits into the original mounting bracket. both these lay flat on the tunnel. then up on the top: a cross member in the back with holes so you can screw into the original seat mount. then a cross member towards the front that you will have to mount into the plastic of the seat. in the back, i did a 45 degree cut to match the tunnel. i also put 25 LED lights(siliconed them in) for an extra brake light. on the original seat; for the front: take out all the staples and half way to the back. you will have to start cutting the plastic seat frame. cut the seat frame so it kind of fits to the gas tank. then take an electric knife (don't tell your wife you are using it on the snowmobile, mine found out and got real mad) and start to contour the foam to fit nicely to the seat. leave extra foam because you can easily manipulate the foam when you wrap the original cover back around. the harder you pull on the vinyl seat the more it puffs up and pulls back. when you have the front end formed, staple (electric stapler) the cover back to the plastic frame. then permantly nail, glue all your wood together so it fits nicely. i used framing nail gun and gorrila glue. then i wrapped the wood frame with vinyl from walmart. and stapled that so it looks nice. the frame then gets permanatly fixed to the seat. then the whole thing fits on the sled like original. i used the thin pallet wood because it was a hardwood and it was thin with square edges. i was going to rip a 2x4 but it has round edge and i was afraid of moisture. my seat ended up 3.5" taller and 4" forward. i actually got to use the bump in the back of the seat like it was intended. for the stearing cross member, it is bolted to the tunnel. i took that off and welded on some gussets on the top corners. to stiffen it up. when you put on risers, you add a lot of torque and the cross member sways. i did this because i wanted it to sit like my buddies 2008 dragon. it sat very comfortable. i also put an edge skidframe in as well. the standing over the bumps made the sled night and day better. i'll find some pictures.

i looked through the house, i can't find any of the pictures. here is a quick sketch. it should get you in the ballpark. the two vertical pieces keep everything in the storage area and stiffens the side to side movement. the top two flats mount permenately to the seat. the two bottom flats are for mounting to the tunnel like stock. i water sealed everything before wrapping it in vinyl. the scariest part was taking the electric knife to the seat. i just took small cuts and kept molding it till it fit right in. i used wood because you can easily electric staple the vinyl to it and it's free (just find a pallet). one last thing. the edge seats are not flat. the tunnel of the edge has a bend in it and so does the seat. i had to cut the wood to match the profile. you don't see it in the seat, but it is one more thing to work around.

if you have a one piece seat/tank. i would cut the plastic seat frame just behind the gas tank. i would leave some plastic toward the back of the tank to use for bolting the tank permanently to the skid. then build your frame for everything else so you go straight up. you might have to shave the front top of the seat to match the gas cap hole. so instead of coming down from the gas cap, you will now shave it so it goes up. you might have to add extra foam. go to the junk yard and get a back seat. they usually just pull out. tell them you need it packing material. they usually give it to you for free. cut your pieces to fit and use 3M spray glue to stick the foam together. if you get a black leather seat. you can use the leather pieces to sew or staple pieces to the front of the original cover. then you can hook the front of the seat up like stock. that is my two cents. or, do like we did in the 70's, we just sat on a lifesaver boat seat cushion.
