I would rebuild it. You got it for free, so you wouldn't be putting more into it than its worth. You might be able to find a motor on ebay too.

They are scary fast. Easily the fastest sled you'll find around. I would look for someone who refurbishes cranks, gonna cost you around 5-700$. You might even be able to get the heads cleaned up. I might cause you to have to run premium though. This is a case if finding a good used one otherwise. That sled is probably crazy in the mountains. Insane as a flatlands boondocker.

Parts for those are plentiful and common you just have to dig around a bit on ebay, HCS, and arctic chat. Some parts are shared with the 800cc triple as well which makes thing a little easier.

You will be hard pressed to ride a faster sled. Fix it for sure!

I would fix it to. You could have about a grand I'm guessing into it, you will love the power it has. I put a triple into my ZR and I love the power it has. The sled itself looks worth putting money into it.

You can fix it yourself for a lot cheaper than that. Grab a repair manual and read through it. If you can follow directions, willing to read, and have a little self confidence you can do it. Yes the stingers will fit both 800/1000 motors. Do some google searching and spend some time on arctic chat. Snow800 over on arcticchat.com is very knowledgeable when it comes to building these big triples. If you get stuck send him a PM. I used to know all the stuff that interchanged but I have been out of the game for awhile and can't say exactly what works.

I agree don't be afraid to wrench on stuff! If you can follow directions it's not all that hard. You really don't even really need any special tools except a full set of deepwell metrics, torque wrench, and a extension. A clutch puller would only really be the only tool you need. I got my service manual on eBay for like 9.95$

The cylinder heads looks the same as mine did when my motor blewup so i feel for you buddy ,even though your getting the sled for free take it, if all it needs is a motor then the rest is gravy I rebuilt my motor by my self it was my first time too and it cost me just under $500 bucks to do it.
Check out my gallery pic to see the motor I rebuilt.

Cases aren't too pricey if you shop around. I found these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ARCTIC-CAT-THUNDERCAT-ZRT-PANTERA-800-900-CRANK-CASE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5641716132QQitemZ370465136946QQptZSnowmobileQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182

I'm not sure if they would fit right though, I'm not as familiar with Arctic Cat.

Then again, I can get you a running engine for about $1500 + shipping if you'd like. I'm not sure if this would be cheaper in the end, but it might work out to be the same price after parts and time spent on getting everything going. At least with this route, you can get back riding quicker. Let me know if you are interested and I'll give my buddy a call and we can go from there.

i just found this for 800 bucks here is the guys add just seeing what every one else thinks about it since im running in to more problems like the crank case being cracked

I have one perfect set of 1050cc Predator cylinders to fit arctic cat triple motors, they have been used once and are honed and ready to go all you have to do is order pistons comes with a set of heads.

These came from www.hooperraceengines.com it was a 1050cc predator race kit

These Cylinders have huge ports and provide excellent flow.

Make your 700/800/900 Fly like the wind

will throw in carbs tuned for set up as well as old engine bottom end which has new seals and case in great shape problem is one connecting rod has 20mm wrist pin hole and the other 2 are 22mm mix up on crank job
was installed professionally but over looked connecting rod wrist pin holes.
This kit was really expensive $ 850.00 is a steal
each cylinder costs near a grand!! and you get all three and heads for them.
Make me an offer !!

i read up on this kit and complete on the motor with it tuned right its 275hp
