Well, as most of us know, a 4.6 is 289ci, and 5.0 is 302ci. Well, apparently the 4.6 is now a 5.0.

Just so you know a 4.6 liter is a 280 cu in motor and a 302 or "5.0" is actually a 4.9 liter. Ford hasn't made the 289 since 1968. And yes, the new 5.0 cammer motor is built off the 4.6 platform.[:D] She is full of crap about the car though.

Hm. Everyone has been telling me my dads 4.6 DOHC was 289ci, guess I was wrong. But at the same time, a 302 is in no way a 4.6.

This information may be helpful. I copied it right from a web site dedicated solely to Ford repair techs.

"The 4.6 L (4601 cc, 281 CID)[2] V8 has been offered in 2-valve SOHC, 3-valve SOHC, and 4-valve DOHC versions. It has also been produced with both iron and aluminum blocks."

Unless your talking about the 5.0 FRPP cammer motor, the new 5.0L modular engine is totally a new animal. I don't believe anything is shared with the 4.6L platform.

The bore @ stroke of the 4.6L modular is 90.2MM, that works out to 4611CC or 281.4CID.

I get the feeling the guy that posted that ad in CL, is the same guy you got yer 4.6L=289CI info from. [thumb]

The new motor is 100% different than the 4.6. They make a 5.0 big bore block that works with the 4.6 crank. But thats aftermarket.
