That is big brother looking out for you (or me for that matter) should you forget to remove the cover.
It would be tough to set a time when they would have to be off. Setting a time, say sundown, would have its problems. There is a vast difference of light level between a day with no clouds and one with clouds and snowing.
not to mention red headlight covers could look like tail lights in poor lighting, i have a red one for my edge and the only time its on is when the sled is sitting in the barn just so it don't get broke, went to throw it out a few times...just can't!
