im looking to improve the low end to mid range on my sled, which is a 2001 polaris xc sp 500, by doing some clutch work. heres the deal, i have a friend who can get me parts at or below dealers cost, the only problem is neither of us know what i need. this is where you guys come in!

i m ordering them out of a Hi-Performance Engineering catalog, they carry;
-comet parts
-dalton and hpe helixes-if a new helix if needed what degree am i looking for
-drive and driven springs-have a butt load of them

if the jetting should be changed they carry that stuff too

so if any of you guys who know your stuff have any suggestions or questions please reply. i cant let this deal slip through my fingers. thanks guys

well ive often thought about clutching the ol xlt, my boss (ex lake racer) told me that i needed to change just the helix, but that doesnt make much sense to me, cause wouldnt you want a different spring as well? he says to get a helix with a shorter ramp. but those are his words, i would like more info, same as you do>

The production clutching is pretty hard to improve on for all around riding. You may be able to gain some acceleration at the expense of top end. Or improve on the backshift at the expense of acceleration. Clutching is usually a compromise to find the all around best combination. Unless you really understand how the system works and know what you are trying get out of a new clutch package I would stick with the factory recomendation.
