High milage rides...

2326 Views 18 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Sledtalk
I see the posts where people rode 100+ miles. And I was thinking to my self, "Self, you only rode 24 miles today and you're wiped out. What's up with that?!" Then I realized they are riding almost exclusively on groomed trails. I'm mountain riding in powder and jumping and a little hill climbing, etc. Then I started feeling better about my lack of milage... Hmm, low milage = higher resale.
The important thing is, were they quality miles? Think about that for a while... Ok, I'm done rambling non-sense. It's late, what do you expect?

We don't care what you ride. Just ride!

Hey AK/AG I know how you feel. The most 'non-mileage' I've ever put on a full tank of gas. 10.5 gal and only went 35Kilometers(about 20 miles) 90KM on the odometer. Now that's a lot of track spin in the deep stuff!! Couldn't walk right for the next 3 days.

I think.... therefore I sled

I have never gone mountain riding yet but would like to. I have only riden my sled probably a half mile this year. That was to put it on the trailer. I bought it in Feb of 2000 and have 1179 miles total. 113 the first season and the rest last. I realy only like to ride it when the trails are prime. Our trails never even opened this year. But when we go for a day when the trails are good and put on a couple hundred miles and see 4 or 5 counties. That is what snowmobiling is all about. At least that is my opinion.

That's what we do, cruize around tell we find a good bowl with some killer hill climbs, good cornice jumps, and of course some scary high marks. Track all that out then start cruizing around again tell you find another good area.... in my opinion that's what it's all about!!!!!!!
Some days I like to play on drifts for hours, and some days I like to go 200+ miles.

alaksangold,

I can't agree more! cuz of the crappy snow the last 2 years in WA (that's how long I been sledding except for when I was a little kid) I always put in alot of miles and wondered what those rainbow looking things on each hill are? this year I found out and will not go back. I am hooked on the Steep and Deep. me best ride this year was 41 miles. Used up a whole tank in that ride. This year has been a kick ass snow year. we have had new snow in the mts each of that last two weekends. last I couldn't ride because grandma was busy riding and therfore I had no babysitter. My daughter loves snowmobile videos though so that helps. The week before we had 1 1/2 to 2 feet of fresh snow. rode all day used a tank of gas prolly about 50 miles.

I need spellcheck!

I did 500 miles in about 4 days the one time. 200 miles the first day. Only riding I got in this season :(. Lots and lots of just fast road riding, sweeping corners stuff.
AKScrambler- Your snowmachine link doesnt work.
Last year I rode 1100 miles is 3 and ½ days. 513 of it was in one 16-hour day, but that was in a race. All told I put on about 2500 miles last year.

Just to get into my cabin is a 40-mile ride each way if you don’t play on the way in or out. Have to beat the bumps to get to the good stuff. The normal weekend is 200 to 300 miles. Three weeks ago we were at the cabin right after a hard blow and had to go back to the cabin after only 40-miles for more gas so we could go back out.

I agree that it’s not the amount of miles, but the quality of them that counts. If you’re into ditch banging and pounding the bumps, do it. If you’re like me the deep stuff is what gets your blood going. For me there is nothing like flying down a creek bed and making turns and hitting jumps as they come and if you get to a spot with some good jumps go back until its all tracked up, then move on to the next spot, this is probably a fall back to my skiing days.

I apologize. I was not trying to take business away from your site or anything. I was just trying to notify the alaskan members on this site so if they were interested in meeting up sometime and having a meet or something we could do so. I will refrain for now on.
:)
Thanks.
