I have a 97 XLT RMK. The running boards (on top of the Exchangers) get so hot, they melt my wifes boots. The exhangers are warm but I can touch them, the overheat light has never come on, the cooant doesn't seem to warm under the cap.
What could be causing this? This is new. Last year I never had this problem. Is there a thermostat that could be a bit warm? Could this be a water pump issue?

Help!!! I really don't want to burn anything up.

cheap boots. really that is all I can think of. I have ridden plenty of sleds with board exchangers and sure they get warm, enough so to warm my feet sometimes but never melt boots. That really seems odd. The idiot light may be broken so check the bulb and connection.

Sticking a thermostat in and checking the actual temp of the coolant wouldn't be a bad idea, although, be careful when removing the cap.

At least I am not going crazy. I had never heard of it before either. I am going to make sure the light works, and keep riding. If there was an air "bubble" in the exchangers, it wouldn't warm hardly at all, correct?

Thanx
