How tight should the chain in the chain case be?

Roll (clockwise) the clutch so the slack is towards the adjuster, tighten it hand tight, then back off 1/4 turn and tighten up lock nut.

What happens if it is to tight?

you will...

1- put an excess load on your bearings
2- wear out and snap the chain prematurely
3- wear out the tensioner
4- wear out your sprockets

If its to tight it will ware out fast and could break from to much tension.

Will you know if its to tight when you are riding?

more than likely you will hear a binding/clicking noise coming from the chain case...if you are this paranoid about it, tip the sled up on its side, take out the 6 bolts holding that cover on and check the tension visually.
