If they are both bone stock, with jetting changes only, the RXL hands down. The XLT will JUST do 105 MPH at a radar run on ice with studs and pipes. I know as this is what mine would do. I owned a 1990 650, which was only carbs and it would have beaten my XLT.

I have a 97 XLTsp, and my neighbor has a 95(?) RXL. I take pretty good mechanical care of my sled, so I don't think I'm giving anything up on the 97hp it's supposed to produce.

Anyway, he beats me off the line, then, no gains one way or the other through the midrange, then he pulls slowly away again from about 70mph+.
