I have a 2004 Polaris Pro X 550f in great shape with 2700 miles with reverse. I have a guy that offered me 2200 for it. Just wanted to know were these good sleds? I am thinking about keeping it has my trail sled.

well you could keep it and find yourself a 600,700,800 motor for under a grand put that engine in it.Thats what my father-in-law did, dropped a 800 twin with VES and has a nice trail machine. Just my 2cents

Not really, take out the 550, sell it for what ever and drop in the new motor with motor mounts. Couldnt tell you about the 550f...I know the 488fans are strong motors. Never heard any complaints on the 550.Good luck.

2200 seems like a good amount for a 550, ProX or not those 550's don't have the get up and go the liquids do.

What other options do you have as far as sleds go? If you were to drop a liquid engine into your chassis you;d have to spend around $1500 or more, add that to the $2200 you could get by selling it and you've got $3700 "into your sled". What kind of sleds do you have around for under $3700? You might be better off selling yours and upgrading.

I personally had problems with my parents touring, it had the 550 fan engine in it. While it can be blamed on the fact that it is a touring sled, i still blame the engine- it was always bogging, never had proper power, even for a touring, and had no acceleration. But once again, could be because its a touring.

I have a 2003 pro x 440 liquid which I could drop a bigger motor in there. But I am thinking about selling the 550 then buying something like a 700 or 800. The 440 is to nice I love it for jumping and stuff.

haha that's always one way to go. I am thinking about keeping the 440 selling the 550f and then going to look for a 700 or 800. I kinda want a zrt 800. Not sure yet but there's lots of deals out there.

Does anyone have any info on the 550 fans?

So you have a 2002 Pro-X 440, 2003 Pro-X 440, 2004 Pro-X 550? So total worth is about $6500 (+/-). For $6500, you could find yourself a nice 2009 Polaris Dragon 600 or 800. (theres one for sale here for $5600). Just my opinion.

The 550's aren't bad motors at all. They are great for what they were built for, which is a nice cruising motor. My brother has a 03 Supersport, which is a 550. Going from my 500, to his 550 is both good and bad. The good part is going from my Gen II to the Edge, its lighter and rides nicer. And thats about the only good things. The power isn't even close between the two. My 500 feels like it pulls hard, but the 550 just kinda goes and doesn't pull. The sound isn't that good either. Fuel economy with it really depends on how you ride. My 500 stays consistent, but the 550 jumps around. If we are just cruising he can easily get 1 or 2 mpgs better than me. But if we get in powder, or he tries to keep up with a liquid the mpgs drop. Personally, i'd sell it and buy a larger liquid.

Thanks for the info. I just wanna pick up a fast trail/lake sled. I am looking at a 03 pro x with a 800 polaris xc motor in it put in by the dealer he says he has all the papers. But he is asking 2800 which is way to much. The sled needs some TLC...
