looking for a sled

I'm helping my friend (He's 15) look for a different sled. His ski-doo has leaf-springs and should've died long ago. It tops out at 50mph and can't handle any bumps. This causes problems because he always wants to ride with me. I need to confince him to get independent front suspension. He doesn't have much of a budget. It also needs to go at 65-70mph. I'm thinking a mid to last 80's Indy trail, maybe. Other ideas?

I can't really think of a late 80's sled with Independent front susp. other than the Indy's, maybe Yamahas? I paid around $1000 for my 89 trail. It goes 70 no prob. and is easy to find parts for. When money counts simplicity is the best - less cost for repairs

How big is his budget? YOu can get a nice sled for for the $1000 range. You could probably find a 1993 XLT for like $1200 to $1300 even.

I sold my 1993 storm with triple pipes and a clutch kit with only 1500 miles for $1200. If you look you can find great sleds for not much money.

Your American prices slay me. that storm would have gone for about $3500 here in Ontario Canada in a normal winter.

Well it wasn't in perfect shape but it wasn't horrible either. All it needed was a little TLC and it would have been fine.

here's the pic:

He's too small and irresponsible for a triple. Talking crap about how he can handle my piped Polaris Ultra when he complains about my 500 twin being too big and bulky. Frecking Dumbass

When did polaris first come out with trailing arms. Phazers, what year / how reliable / other good or bad things??

Probably looking at less than $900
If he thinks your 500 is to big and bulky tell him to look for a 91 or earlier indy 400

Trees don't make the greatest brakes...
get him an early 90's Sport 440. Fan cooled, 440.

Well, I'm not sure how you (or anyone else for that matter) feels about the old Phazers, but when I was a kid, my parents had two of em. They were great in their time!!!

They're light weight, fast, totally reliable, fan cooled and have IFS. You could pick up one of these sleds real cheap. Also since their are so many of them out there, you could easily find parts for them if you needed to. Definately one to consider.

I'll second this....this year my friend bought a 1994 super sport in perfect condition with less than 1000 miles on it for $1200 bucks.

You can find good deals here in Wisconsin too. I think peaple just want to get rid of them when their is hardly any snow. They just can't stand seeing that loan payment every month.
