hi, just wondering if there is a big difference between a cycle helmet and snowmobile helmet. just bid on a hjc c-12 and didn't notice it is a motorcycle helmet.

the main difference beside's the rating would be the double layered windshield. and a breath deflector. there might be more but I can't think of them right now.

check around. maybe you can get a snowmachine shield for the hjc. I know the scorpian helmets for example can be used summer and winter with the different shields.

Youd probably be fine with a motorcycle helmet, but because they dont have a double lens shield you might have issues with fogging. Id bet you could find a double lens shield for it though.

Should work allright. I know of a few guys that ride with moto x helmets made for the summer. They have no issues.

I would look for a double lens though.

There is a big difference! I own 2 sled helmets and 2 motorcycle helmets.. all HJC

The sled ones have alot more insulation and double lens with breath deflector.

Cancel your bid.

Not everyone likes all the insulation. That is the first thing my brother in law rips out. He gets hot just looking at the helmet. At work he is the first guy taking his shirt off(at 60*f).

^ tell him to lose weight.. haha

When you wreck your sled, and your head slams into the ground, you will want that insulation.

I don't think you can even buy a double layer shield for that helmet. I don't see it on any of the list I have here of HJC stuff. Check it out online and get back to us to see if you can even get that shield.

This is a pretty stupid thread anyways.. you can just cancel your bid on ebay. It goes on your feedback history but no biggy as long as you don't do it all the time. I did it once before. Now I am alot more carefull when I bid. I bid on something that a guy said would fit my sled.. I posted on here and everyone told me it wouldln't. So, I cancelled my bid for it.

Cancel the bid.. and spend that money on a helmet that is made for what you want to use it for. Even if you buy that helmet you have to spend $$ on the correct shield in the least.

Ok.. I think I might have found your auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HJC-C-12-Motorcycle-Helmet-XL-w-gloves_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6749QQihZ009QQitemZ190057523163QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Thats the only C12 I can find on ebay. And now I am on HJC's website, I don't even see where they make sled helmets. They used to make a "cirrus" brand.. thats what I have and like. My motorcycle helmets are both HJC also. CL-15 in black.. and CL-15 Session in pink for my girl.. I have another sled helmet for her thats a bieffe.. so I misspoke earlier.. I have 3 hjc and one bieffe..

Here are some thread for you I found online for you to form your own opinion. But I think my opinion is a credible source, as am an avid user of BOTH style helmets.

Here is a guy that uses the CL12 for snow and road. Here is a quote from there "the HJC CL-12 is sold in both a motorcycle version and a snowmobile version" http://www.off-road.com/snowmobile/reviews/2001/hjc/hjc_cl12_review.htm

Here is a thread on SF where a guy has a CS12 and runs it as a sled helmet. But you said yours is a C-12..

Here is the difference between Snell ratings and DOT ratings.. http://www.helmetsetc.com/snell-vs-dot.asp

I can tell from looking at the EBay pic's, that helmet takes the same shield as My CL-Max modular.
A new double pane from Dennis Kirk cost's $34.99, The electric shield from Dennis Kirk cost's $84.99
