uhh, mountain climing? flat out race? either one I don't know. stock mountian max engine(same as SXR) isn't that impressive. Bit weak for a 700 triple cylinder. Modded they rip though. If its a climb race I would prolly go with the Mountain Max though.

I know with stock gearing a 02 600 MM will do 90 max on the speedo, buddy got one and have seen first hand. If it's a drag, I would hope the XLT would win......But in the hills I would go MM.

I have a 700 MM and top speed is around 85 90 and by dad had an XLT both machines stock. The XLT will win in a drag on the top end but the MM has the pull off the line.

When it come to climbing, sidehilling, and boonedocking the MM rules over the XLT, but that is what the MM was mad to do.

I do have a friend with a highly modifed 700 MM that is lighter and quicker then the 800 RMK, but he has also put about $5000 into the machine also. A waste of money if you ask me. If you want a faster machine buy one with a bigger motor.
