I have a 1980 SkidDoo GPS 500. The other day I noticed a metal bar with a leather strap attached, pointing out of the track area. This bar appears to have been attached to the front arm and a crossbrace near the front of the track. I am assuming it was some sort of device to maybe keep tension on the track. I know it broke off during my last ride and didn't hamper the enjoyment too much, but what does it do and how fast do I have to repair it? Can it wait till spring when its easier and warmer to do?

It was your limiter strap.. you should replace it, but you can ride without - IF that's all that broke. It limits how far the front part of your suspension will travel. You've probably noticed that it handles differently now on hard pack...
I'd tip that sled on it's side, if you haven't already done so, and give your suspension a close examination. When parts of your suspension are flying out of the ass end, it's usually a bad sign! lol
