Hi, I offered to help a buddy change the rear track shock on his 97 or 98 xlt evolved chassis. Does anyone have any tips on making this process easy and fast?

I have never done it without pulling the hole skid. Should we pull the skid or is it possible by just tacking off the preloads and unbolting ir or pin or whatever is holding the shock on. Thanks for the help.

if you have a way of using a sled lift it would make the job way easier. or lay it on its side. drop the rear of the skid down. that will give you more room to work. with two of you it shouldnt be bad at all. with the sled in the air. take the rear springs off the rails and flip them so they are pointing out the back. then you can easily remove the rear mounting bolts. it will also go together easier with the spring like that. then drop the rear. take out the old shock put in the new one. pretty cut and dry.

another good thing to use is a rachet strap to pull the rear holes back to the mounting
