SOme of you may have seen my post on a VMAX I was looking at, and i have one final question for all of you,

a 99VMAX 500 with 3,500 miles on the original motor, is it of concern that only after 3500 miles there was a rebuild?

Thanks in advance

It isn't a bad thing necessarily. It is getting up there in miles, so the owner may have done the rebuild to be safe.

ya and 11 years old and only 3500 miles could it be also attributed to a lot of sitting and down time?

The seller told me sleds just arnt his thing, i also think maybe he did it just to try and sell it faster?

Thats nothing to be concerned about, ask why it was rebuilt though. If it was for maintenance or if something else caused it to fail.

ya one guy gave me his email, gonna take lots of pictures on sun. and email them to him, he is gona post them up and also tell me what he thinks, definitly sounds like he knows his stuff.

Also got an email from the seller he got 135 for compression and he says the rebuild only has 5 miles on it, so not even broken in, what do you say in terms of that?

Going to look at the VMAX on sun, found out the rebuild was for a broken piston skirt.?.? hope that makes sense, if that does make sense would a top end rebuild correct that problem ?

thanks

yes a top end build would be required for a broken piston skirt. kinda curious what shape the cylinders would be in though.

it was rebuilt by a shop, the seller has the paper work on the rebuild, cost is 650

I think i remember the seller saying that when he got the sled it had the broken skirt so he rebuilt right away, he said the compression is a 135 said he hasnt even broken in the rebuilt yet.

Ok checked it out today and was very impressed with what I saw,
-All lights worked and the sled started right up first pull after we took the cover off.
-Track spinned freely, just some leaves in it(video below) and when the track was spinning speedo worked.

-Sled didnt have hardly any rust.
-Here are the pictures and another video of it ideling.

It all depends on the price of course - but if that is okay, I would buy it.

Kind of funny that a guy would give up on snowmobiling after just one ride and buying a sled. Some people are like that though.
