I am replacing the original clutch on a 97 zl 440 and i bought a clutch from a mechanic i know that is the newer style clutch from my old one. He said it would line up perfectly and run fine, but then another mechanic i know said that since its the nine point clutch it will eat up the belt so i will need to buy a new style belt. he also sauid that the weights may be way off and cause it to rev too high....which mechanic is right here? I put the 48.5 weights in it, those are what the sled calls for

yeah, it shouldnt make a difference. when i put the new style clutch on my 700 i didnt change anything and its fine.

however, since the new clutch is a lighter design it may allow the engine to rev quicker. as if you have a lighter flywheel on it. so you may gain some throttle response.
