Just got my 500 XC SP had it for one Saturday. And on Sunday 113 miles later, I was takeing a short cut from my buddies to my parents place and I went through my budies sand pit. Came down over the hill and the drifts were awsome!! Thought I would play for a while and on the second drop, BAM. There sat a Olds 350 rocket engine block frozen to the ground. Ouch!! Took out the whole left front suspension. Needless to say I don't like to leave the trail now.

Wow... that really sucks. People need to be more careful about where they leave their small blocks these days.

Glad to hear no one was hurt. I remember last season, my closest call. Well not me but my brother.

I was leading, night ride. Mild trail speed and the snow level last year was really low. We took a very well know trail and I noticed just before climbing up a narrowed trail that a 2" cable was sitting about 1 1/2' above the snow level. I came to a stop (I wouldn't normally stop there) and started to wave slow to my brother but I don't think he got the message.

Once he grabbed the brake he skidded the XLTs skis right under the cable and the sled came to a stop with the cable touching the nose cone.

Heart pounding but other than that, he was very lucky that night.

True but in this case I can see why it was there. The trail is a loggin road and the upslope we were about to go up is the access to a treatment plant. Not really private property mind you, the cable is there to keep 4X4s out during the summer, but since the snow level was so low last year... well I think he just went in too hot and couldn't understand why I stopped there. Oh well... we live to tell about it.

Well I figure that if he wrote the post, he is fine. Now if his sled wrote a post, I wouldn't worry so much!!

I know of a guy locally that was killed by exposed cable on a trail several years ago..... we all need to remember how fragile life is and to keep things in check once in awhile. Glad everyone was ok here.
