old vmax 4 ????

a buddy of mine has one its a grate shape sled but he broke the crank ... no suprize those things r known fer that lol any way would it be worth buying and puting like and vmax 600 moter in it what would i have to go abouts doing to put a differnt moter in it i bult my viper frome the ground up so i hve exspeince with doing thigs like this. ive just never put a differnt moter in a sled would i run into issues with mounting it in i have a donner sled what do u guys think

repair the v-4 motor ... those things are crazy puting a 600 engine in it would be a crime. [nono]
Yup, rebuild it. Those Vmax-4s are still some of the fastest sleds ever made.
The vmax4 750 smokes 700 vipers. Rebuild the 750 ( or 800 )
Rebuild the V-max 4, I thought one of the snowmobile mags (snowmobiler or snogoer) had an article on that sled over the summer..."its still one of the best lake racers to date." Wasnt made for the trails but once it got to the lakes or fields then hang on.
do u guys know were i could git a crank for it???
shop around ,,ebay ,,junk yards etc ,I have a 92 750 vmax 4 and the mid to upper range is like a bomb going off

Ok, please take this with a grain of salt....the 750's are not a bomb, they did tend to have crank problems(92 more so the 93 & 94) when you put pipes on them and turn the rpms higher(need to weld the crank)....now a 800 is bullet proof as long as they are tuned correctly. Go to Vmax4.com , you will find what you need. The vmax4 is a great sled, Built one from the ground up last year....don't let the year fool you, they are fast!! and set up correctly and tuned, I would run it againt almost anything.
Check these guys for a crank a buddy of mine got a crank for a old enticer 300 for 27 bucks and yamaha wants like 700 bucks. They are in quebec though.

I just checked... not worth it they want 450 for a crank according to the site.
oh gawd i'd love to take an vmax 4 fer a rip. when i was little dad had a 98 800 v max4 he piped and put a 136 track on it. it was so crazy loud and fast. I was jsut a little guy (5years) and would ride in front. I would be screaming and cryin at dd to slow down cause he was going way to fast and the sled was way to nosiy lol. couldn't the current crank be welded and balanced again? they blow rings and pistons lots but they are a one of a kind sled.
ok so im gunna buy this thing he said hell give it to me for 100 dollers the body is nice im going to rebuld the moter figerd it would be a good project
ok so i bought this thing ill post pics it turns over im gunna git some gas and try to fire it i think it mught have just blew the top end up becuse i pulled the plugs and thay were ghost white so lean ill keep u guys up dated its a grate looking sled and fer 100 dollers i might call around and find a new moter for it

If you are going to rebuild the motor...Make sure you do your home work....92-94 (750's) I would not rebuild to stock. Thier are very well known tricks while you have that motor apart that will help increase relibility & performance. I know people on the net that have 15-20K on Vmax4s. The 95+ (800) are solid as is. Chances are if it blew its more likely its because somebody was doing some tuning and like mentioned, ran it lean. I have 5K on mine and its faster now then was new.

thanx i do plan to rebuild and i would like to know were to find info. on how to build them
I have the service manual for the 92 I beleive, would sell it if you wanted. Go to Vmax4.com and start poking around, tons of info thier. On the 92: welding the crank is something I would do if I was going that far in for sure. make sure and get the 93/94 pistons for it (not the stock 92,different skirt windows) Read the base gasket trick, raises the port timming closer to the 800 spec, and then either shave the heads alittle to bring the comp. back up or go to slimmer head gasket....Its all on the site, check it out.
