One of our family sleds is a 1990 yamaha phazer and there is a lot of play in the stearing and theres just not enough adjustment left to make it go away, has any body ever used the shim kit they make for the models with strut type yamaha snowmobiles

I think that is your only option.
This is why I steer clear of Phasers and Vmaxes...lol
It is certainly worth a try, not too many Yami guys on here that I've seen.
Have you tried asking in a Yami forum?

Hey I'll try to help. I had an 84 and 87 Phazer along w/ a venture and a VMax (all TSS). Can you supply more details? Is it the ball end of the tie-rod? The main center linkage?...

My family used to own many Phazers over the years, and I know the condition you're speaking of. My father still owns a 1990 Exciter that I just rebuilt for him. Anyways to make a long story short. Yes, get the shim kit. That's exactly what you need, and it will tighten that streering right up for you. Its definately worth the money to get rid of the slop.
