my 02 super psort 550 was running fine then all of a sudden it fell on its face, it would run but it was reall boggy and what not, i couldn't get it to come out of it so i pulled the cyclenders off and the pull cord side piston broke off on the intake side about half the skirt was gone and the clutch isde jsut had a crack on the intake side whaqt do you htink could have caused this? not lettingit warm up?

but why did it crack the side of the piston and not burn a hole in the top if it was lean?

If you go to the SnoWest site there is a long thread about the 550's and how to set them up to avoid the piston melts.

Just search 550 fan and it should be the top one.

The typical piston skirt breakage cause is piston slop, caused by high mileage and improper warm up's.

well the sled did/has a lil over 6k on it so ya slop wouldn't surprise me, i bought the sled used so i don't know if it was ever rebuilt, thanks
