Hi

I got a 96 ext580 with 6400 miles on it never up as far has I know. I want to put new pistons in it Should I get over bore or standard bore pistons? The sled had 120 psi in both cylinder begining of last winter will cold. I only put 700 miles on it last winter(layed off with out notice no money).

Should I get it port and polish will the motor apart? How much more gain in power will I get?

Thanks
Peter

All depends what for money situation is:
rough costs: porting 500 6HP ?
replating after boring or porting 500
oversize pistons 300- 350
new stock pistons, assumming bore is good 350
and run it as is,probably a good idea

And Welcome Aboard

Chances are you may need to re-bore to ensure the cylinders are true. You'll need to get them measured to determine this. That will determine if you need to rebore them or not. No sense changing pistons if the cylinders straight up if the cylinders are worn, and little gain in boring if not necessary.
