Does anyone know what year Polaris came out with a twin 600 with the oil pump mechanism between the two carbs. And what model it was from?
Also would a 600 cylinder head cover fit on any 500 series engines?
I believe you would be looking for the 2000 XC SP 600 twin engine, or newer. The previous "big block" 600 USA-built twin in 98 and 99? had the oil pump mounted to the side by the water pump which was all driven by a belt and pulleys.
The 2000 XC SP 600 is easily detected by having VES and i believe the engine block was based on the 440 race engine therefore calling it the "small block" 600. The water and oil pump are driven off a gear straight from the crankshaft which is what you're looking for. It also has more power than the previous engine.

If you're referring to the very top "colored" cover only, then i think you might be able to swap them ??? Not sure. The heads and jugs i would leave alone though.
