How important is it to use regular petroleum oil over synthetic oil in breaking in a new engine? This question is really for next winter, but since the engine was just done, Im curious. It is a cast iron lined engine, with cast pistons. Thank you.

Put your normal oil in and run it. I usually take it easy for the first couple of miles to make sure everything is put together right then run it like normal. Riley

yeah, i've read a bunch about using non-synthetic for like the first 150 miles. I broke mine in with amsoil before I read those articles. I havn't looked at my pistons, but the motor runs awesome. The suspension i keep breaking though, lol.

But really, I don't think you can go wrong just adding a bit of premix to the first tank, and take it easy on the first tank. Either kind of oil. Then after one full tank, you can ride it fairly hard, no WOT for more than like 10 secconds. After about 2-3 tanks, ride it like you stole it!
