When adjusting the chain on my sled, is it correct to just loosen the locknut, and then turn the adjusting bolt till its finger tight, then re-tighten the locknut?

It is usually slightly different for each sled, your best bet is to check your manual. However, I always use the rule of thumb, that when the cover is off, there should be about 1/4 of play in each direction on the chain. Then tighten the lock nut again.
