I know on a ski-doo that the driven pulley is totally different and that on the older models it is not possible to add electronic reverse. Even in 2001 I don't believe you could add RER ,only mechanical. If you didn't order a sled with RER on it you were out of luck.

Not a stupid question! Unlike all mechanical systems RER slows the engine down to I think 500 RPM and them changes ignition timing makeing motor run backwards, that is why the driven pulley is different because it rotates in the opposite direction.

I believe the driven pulley has angles goiing in opposite directions on the helix after that I'm not sure.
