I am looking for a silencer and reeds for my 98 XCR 440. I don't want twin pipes because that is alot of $$$, and I wanted to know how much I should spend on most bang for the buck reeds. Which kind of silencer do you prefer, and reeds? Will it decrease the life on my engine if I put a silencer, or reeds on? How do I know how to jet it correctly. I want to spend around 200 for a silencer and around maybe a nother 200 for the reeds. Any help is appricated!!!

Well buddy e-bay should be your new best friend! I have a 99XCR700 not 800 but there bascaily the same. AS far as a silencer goes you can get a mbrp for about $240 but i perfer the DG which is 3 silencers not just 1 big one. THey don't make them anymore but look around and you will find one. E-bay may have one, thats where i got mine and many performance shops have them laying around, but you will have to call and ask them.

As far as the reeds go just get some Boysen reeds for $100

They don't make twin pipes for a 98 xcr 440. They don't even make an aftermarket single pipe for this sled. Believe me, I spent all summer looking for one. I had to fork over $340 for a stock pipe. I am running an AAEN aftermarket straightflow race silencer on mine. You can pick one up for about $50. As for the reeds, look on ebay for a deal?? Oh, and buy the way, they don't make an aftermarket silencer for this sled either. That is why I went with a generic race silencer. Aaens fit perfectly and was the lightest.[;)]

so under your signature, it says "pipes" so that means you have twin pipes, and you just said they dont make them...ive heard that they do make them but its hard to find. you tell me to get a silencer, then you tell me they dont make an aftermarket silencer for this sled either? can you please explain in more detail, and give me a link to that aaen silencer for 50 dollars. also can you tell me which reeds you recommend? also why wouldnt they make an aftermarket single pipe for the sled, i see them all the time.

I agree with Eightpilot, nobody that i know of makes any pipes for that engine. I have that same sled and the stock tuned pipe is as good as your going to get. I mean really...what more could you want? A 440 that runs with 600/700's is doing well in my book! I see you have a boost bottle already, but I'll post some links for Reeds:

Boyesen: have both the Power Reeds and the RAD Valves. I would lean toward the Power Reeds because they are cheaper, and you can still use them on your stock cages.

I'm telling you...They don't make any pipes for a 97/98 440 XCR snowmobile. I had a set CUSTOM made for me by a performance shop that is no longer around. That pipe in AAEN's catalog will NOT fit a sled with VES. Believe me I've spoken with Olav Aaen in person. That catalog is not supposed to have "XCR" in with that list of sleds next to 440. Olav told me himself. As for the silencer.....I fitted a GENERIC Aaen race silencer onto my new single pipe. ( that I had to buy through polaris ) I wouldn't [email protected] you. The pipe on that 440 VES engine is ALOT bigger than on the 98 Indy 440.

To answer your second question.... They don't make a pipe for a 98 xcr 440 because it was a race sled... That means companies that raced this sled had custom pipes made if they wanted twin pipes. Pipe makers told me that aftermarket twin or single pipes had no real hp gain on the engine at all. Polaris had really done there homework on the stock pipe. In 97/98 that xcr 440 was a limited build sled anyway. Most of them were sold to race teams. So there weren't alot of them rolling down the trail for you and I to modify. I have researched this particular sled intensly. That is what makes this sled so awesome. Not only does it put out almost 105 HP in stock form. But it was also the first sled to have reeds and exhaust valves on an american made mill. This sled is really one of a kind. I think that anyone who really knows this sled will agree! Good luck!!
