I'm sure this sort of post is out here somewhere, but what sort of sleds did everybody ride "back in the day"?

I started riding when I was 14 or so, I'm 41 now...got out of the sport for about 6 years I think, back in now for 3. Tell ya what, glad I did. Had know idea how much I missed it till I got back!

Here are mine:
- '78 Yamaha 440 Exciter
- '80 Kawasaki 440 Invader (not sure what happened to this one, I think it was sold with a burn piston)
- '85 Yamaha SRV (bought this sled new...cashed in a pile of savings bonds!)
- '91 Wildcat (this one was new too..traded in the SRV. Tinkered with this one a bit..she was a runner)
- '86 El' Tigre (this one sat more than I rode it...about when I got out of sledding)
- '05 Ski-Doo MXZ 600HO (bought this one used in '08 with 612 miles)
- '91 Indy 500 (this is my girfriends sled...I'm the mechanic)

The Yamahas were dependable as can be. The '78 was sold to a bud of mine (his first sled too, he burnt it down). The Kaw overheated qucik, burt a piston, had it fixed and it burnt down again (shitty shop I guess, long story there). Thw Wildcat was tempremental (picked, clutched, piped, carb work, fouled plugs all the time), did not ride the '86 much at all (maybe 20 miles). Sold it to my buds boss for $250 I think. Hands down, the Ski-Doo is the best ride. I swore I'd keep it stock. Did not make it. It's picked, canned, and 3.5" ROX risers and a mid-height Cobra sheild, Power Madd hand gaurds).

The 2 sleds my dad tought me how to ride on when I was 7 yrs old
El Tigre ( think it was a 440 early 70's not sure)
Puma (early 70's I think 340 not sure)
Next sled I rode countless times around the yard and up and down the ditch.
Even put 1000 miles on it going no farther than 2 miles from the house not sure how
1990 jag 440 deluxe (sold it 3 yrs ago with 7300 miles on it)
When I was in high school My dad let me ride his sled
1995 EXT 580 carb
The first sled I bought
2002 ZR 600 CCE EFI (loved that sled but I just had to go out west and 121 didn't do it for me)
So I made a trip out storm lake to see what they had and traded for the next one
2003 mountain cat 600 EFI 144
I always told my self a 600 was enough power for me. Well that only lasted 2 years. So last year I made another phone call and trip to storm lake and traded for my current sled.
2005 King Cat EFI 162
So far I love this sled. Only think I hated about it was the attack 20 track but I just upgraded that to a power claw. We will see how long this last befor I want an M.

1993 Polaris Classic Touring(ice fishing)
Now that i am old(29) with kids I went back to my favorite sled mainly for icefishing and a little trail riding. Couldn't find an 89 so I went to a 1990 Polaris Sport...simple, easy to fix and just goes and goes. Currently I am considering getting a 2005 - 2006 XC 500. If anyone knows of a good one let me know.

99 Mach z "current sled"

I remember Riding my dads 96 Formula STX 583 when he had it. He bought it new and only had it a year. I'll admit my dad bought the first 2 sleds on my list when I was younger. But the rest I saved up for and bought.

First sled was a 98 xcr 440
Second was a 98 indy 500 with a 136 track.
Contently I own a 02 Arctic Cat ZR 440 Sno-Pro with a D&D 720 kit.

1. 78 Kawasaki Drifter 440
2. 81 Arctic Cat Trail Cat 340
3. 89 Polaris Indy Sport 340
4. 91 Arctic Cat Cougar 440 (first liquid sled)
Current: '00 Polaris XCSP 700

Overall I owned the Indy Sport the longest, the Drifter and Cougar were one or two year deals each. My father/brother used a 79 elTigre 5000 for years. That thing FLEW.

Favorite by far is my 700. Fast, comfortable, fun!

2. 1976 Ski-Doo TNT 340 E
3. 1996 Arctic Cat Z 440
4. 1996 Arctic Cat EXT 580

the z 440 was by far the worst sled, i only put 40 miles on it in 2 years and put 2 new tracks on it, a new carb, new crank seals, then the motor piled up.

my favorite would be my 580 by far, i want an M8 but i will probly never sell the old 580
