I recently bought a 99 Venture 500 LC with 3000 miles on it. The compression on both cylinders was about 125 PSI. Last weekend, I took the carbs off to drain and clean and had a peek at the pistons through the inlet ports. One of the pistons had a few vertical scratches in it. My neighbour says that we should probably do a top end replacement (pistons kit) and have the cylinders honed.
What is everyone elses opinion on this? Are these scratches that serious (sorry no pics) Should I get into this and fix it up or just leave it alone. I don't want more damage to be done by leaving it if that is possible but really a top end kit isn't that much $$ and we'll do it ourselves so maybe $300 by the time we're done.
Your words of wisdom are very much appreciated!
