Sounds like the pin is broke. Disconnect the other end of the cable (the side down by the motor) There is a pin there. If its broke make sure that you dont push it in while removing it because then it turns into a pain trying to get it out. Also if it is broke that is a good indication that the bearings on the drive shaft are going bad and need to be replaced. You dont want them to seize while riding. They are pretty easy to replace and dont cost that much so you should replace both bearings.
