Son has a 1988 phazer and something in the steering snapped last year. Looks like the motor has to be pulled to get to whatever broke. was wondering if the clutch has to come out with it or can just the motor be pulled.
Was told by brother in law that because of the way they were assembled that everything has to come out. If anyone has done it before I would appreciate some info on what Im getting myself into. Thanks

If I'm understanding your question right, then no, you don't need to take the clutch off in order to take the motor out. You can just pull the motor with the clutch still attached to the crank shaft; no problem.

same thing happened to me on my 87 exciter, when you pull the engine leave the clutch on.i'll bet the steering arm broke where the tie rods connect to the flange that is welded on to the steering stem, you can have it welded or find a used one, i picked up a used one for $15 hope this helps
